Max Whitlock wins gold at World Gymnastics Championships, medals for Downie sisters

A combined group time trial could be a part of the Paris 2024 road biking programme if the occasion proves popular for this year’s world championships.
The case, this calendar year trialled at the leagues in Alkmaar, makes its world championships debut with national teams comprising of three female cyclists and three male riders on Sunday in Yorkshire.
It follows involves women’s road cycling to have a higher profile and could allow an additional street event in Paris to go next to the road races and individual time trials.
“The UCI will be interested to see how this format evolves over the next Olympic period and are open to working with the IOC to introduce a new and innovative structure in the present Road Cycling programme at the Olympic Games,” that a UCI spokesman said on Wednesday.
“Looking ahead, this would match perfectly with our objective of complete gender parity at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with the purpose that female and male cyclists will love equivalent number of quotas, chords and events.”
The mixed team time trial will probably see three male cyclists tackle a hilly 14km circuit about Harrogate with all the women’s trio setting away when the 2nd male rider crosses the line. Times will be an aggregate of these men’s and women’s cyclists.
