The Village
West Auckland is a village situated to the west of Bishop Auckland on the A68 road. The village is famous for its football team to win the first World Cup! It also has one of the largest village greens in the county.
The Hall
The Memorial Community Centre was built in 1925 as a fitting memorial to the men of West Auckland who died in the 1914 – 1918 war. Since then the original hall has been renovated and built on, and now offers a welcoming venue for residents of West Auckland and the surrounding areas.

Regular activities ongoing in the hall include New Age Kurling, Carpet Bowls, Zumba, Piloxing, Hip Hop & Street Dance, Keep Fit, Aikido, Weight Watchers and Slimming World.
The Main Function Room is ideally suited for Children’s Parties, as it can accommodate a Bouncy Castle.
The Memorial Hall has a Premises Licence and a Performing Rights Society Licence.

Facilities: The modern Kitchen facilities include a microwave, cooker, fridge, freezer and two sinks. There is a Stage making the hall an ideal venue for productions. There are also Toilet facilities accessible to all. The place is kept spotlessly clean.
Free WiFi is also available.
Equipment: The hall has adequate chairs and tables and there is ample crockery and cutlery available. There is also a variety of sports equipment, carpet bowls, new age kurling, shuffleboard, a pool table, stage lighting and a PA system.
Parking: Designated car park with sixteen spaces.
Roadside parking is also available alongside the A68.
Access: Access for all into the hall and the premises is on one level. There are no stairs.
Hire Charges: Membership – family group £3.00, adults/OAPs £2.00, children under 14 £1.00.
Hire charges from 9.00am – 11.00pm for all standard bookings other than sections (special rates apply after 11.00pm): Main Hall (Function Room) and Coffee Lounge £11.00, Games Room £9.00.
Kitchen rate per session – organisations and sections £2.00 added for use to make tea, coffee and drinks; hire of crockery, cutlery etc. £5.00 – £10.00 depending on requirements; organisations, sections and functions £10.00 added for use of electric ovens and gas hobs for warming food, plus £10.00 extra if kitchen is used for cooking as well. Catering – £10.00 per hour for use of kitchen facilities plus use of fridge/freezer overnight. Tables and chairs – hire charges by arrangement. Section rates £5.00 per hour for Main Hall (Function Room) and Coffee Room and apply to normal weekly bookings only. Special events for all organisations and sections charged at £17.00 per hour to cover use of the Hall, Kitchen, Games Room and Coffee Room. Special rate for children’s parties including setting up time is £37.00 for two hours – use of the Hall, Kitchen and the Coffee Room – £5.00 of this is refundable.

The West Auckland Memorial Community Association, are holding an AUTUMN FAYRE on Saturday the 21st of October at 1.30 pm at the Memorial Hall on Darlington Road, West Auckland. This is to raise funds for the upkeep of the Hall and for the Xmas Parties for Members and for the Adults with Learning Difficulties who come along every Tuesday for New Age Kurling.
We have an excellent Tombola Stall with one hundred prizes available to win; there’s Bric A Brac / Book Stall, with CD’s and DVD’s on sale, and a Toy Stall for the kids. We also have a Cake Stall with locally baked produce, provided by patrons who use the Hall. Plus, there’s a Raffle / Draw with 20+ prizes donated by local businesses, who always support us, and tea and scones from the Kitchen, just to keep you going.
There’s also numerous craft stalls, including one with Crochet Toys & Handmade Gifts, Pegbags & Needlecases, another with Knitted Egg Cosies, Fabric Boxes/Bags/Brooches, one raising funds for the Children’s Society, plus Handmade Crafts from the Monteith Craft Group (Willing Hands).
In addition, there will be two performances on the Stage in the afternoon. There’s a display of hip hop and street dance, by the children who come along to the Dynamic Dance School run by Stephanie every Tuesday night. Then there is the Zumba Crew (Adults With Learning Difficulties) from Growing Together West Auckland, who do Zumba and are choreographed by their instructor Jan, who does Zumba Gold with them every Thursday afternoon.
This year, admission is free, so why not pop along and join us for the afternoon, and see what we have to offer.

SIMPLY SOCIAL is normally on the first MONDAY of the month, but as the volunteers are not available early October it's next on the last Monday in September (30th).
There's an artiste on every month, refreshments, tea, coffee, and sandwiches are provided, there's bingo, plus Irish bingo and it's only £2.50 for the afternoon.
Come early to ensure that you get a seat. We're sure that you'll enjoy the experience.
