Staindrop Scarth Hall

The Village

Staindrop is one of County Durham’s green villages, with mainly eighteenth century stone houses surrounding a series of interlocking greens. In 1971 the centre of the village was designated a Conservation Area in order to secure its protection and improvement.

The Hall

Scarth Memorial Hall in Staindrop village was built in 1875, in memory of Thomas Freshfield Scarth, land agent to the Dukes of Cleveland of Raby Castle.

Following an extensive programme of improvement and refurbishment the Hall now boasts a range of modern facilities including a cinema, IT suite, state-of-the-art kitchen, ramp access for wheelchairs and buggies, and stairlift access to the first floor. We offer a wide range of regular classes and activities, as well as one-off events.

It’s the perfect venue for receptions and gatherings for weddings, funerals, memorials, naming ceremonies, christenings, birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, and more.

Scarth Hall is also ideal for holding meetings, conferences, training courses and seminars. We have audio visual facilities in the main hall and the Training room, and free wifi throughout.

The large and well-equipped Hall can accomodate fairs and sales, rehearsals, concerts, stage productions, dance events and more. We can recommend local caterers, and we’ll provide a fully-licensed bar if required. See www.scarthhall.co.uk/book-the-hall

We welcome your ideas about what you’d like to see at the hall – just email us at scarthhall@gmail.com

In 2009, Steve spent his summer working at a kids' camp in America. Woefully ill-equipped, disastrously naïve and notoriously bad with children – this is the true story of what happened. Following two critically acclaimed sell-out Fringe runs, Steve Bugeja returns with his third solo show. BBC New Comedy Award winner, as seen on Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central (Comedy Central) and heard on BBC Radio 4’s Fresh From The Fringe. Tickets from TicketSource. Two of the UK Acoustic/Folk scene's finest songwriters join forces for a series of concerts filled with songs and music, chat and banter and intimate insights into their approach to their craft.

Head to head, neck and neck (guitar necks, that is!) listen in as they rekindle the spontaneity of their late- night living-room song swaps. Questions, answers, anecdotes and anarchy... and a very special evening of music.

Songwriting partnerships are nothing new in folk music. But when two artists as singular and well-respected as Steve Tilston and Jez Lowe get together to co-write after forty-odd years of ploughing their own distinctive furrows, it is definitely worth sitting up and listening. Tickets from Staindrop Post Office or online from TicketSource. Doors & bar 7.00 pm.
