Pottering amongst the seeds and cuttings at the back of his ramshackle greenhouse in the garden of a Gloucestershire manor house is Herbert Pinnegar. Now in his twilight years, he is full of memories and tales of a bygone era. In between potting up and potting on, he recounts his journey from orphan boy to legendary head gardener 'Old Herbaceous' and tells of his friendship with the lady of the house, Mrs.Charteris.

Sown with seeds of gardening wisdom, this charming one man show is a love story – a humorous portrayal of a single-minded yet gentle man with a passion for plants.

Saskia Griffiths-Moore is a London based singer-songwriter that has been performing at folk clubs, theatres and festivals worldwide.

She is endorsed by Agnew Instruments and JWC Guitars, and has completed her second recording at Abbey Road Studios. Her music has been featured on Sky TV, London Live, BBC Radio Scotland, Wales and more, she was awarded multiple grants from Arts Council England and has received glowing four and five star reviews from Maverick and RnR magazine respectively.

***** "The sound of a major artist" RnR
**** "Expertly crafted and expertly played" Maverick

Saskia started her career as Craniosacral therapist on Harley Street until her performing career took off. She has toured through the United Kingdom and across Europe including Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, and Denmark.

On the 50th anniversary of Woodstock festival, 2019, Saskia recorded and released a commemorative album of folk music called 'Baez, Dylan and Me', featuring songs by Bob Dylan and Joan Baez that are evocative of that time period.

Accompanying Saskia at Abbey Road Studios were; Kit Hawes on Mandolin and guitar, Thomas Holder on double bass, and Joseph O'Keefe on Violin. The project was sponsored by JWC Guitars. She returned in December 2019 with a 40 person choir behind her and a string quartet to record the single 'For You'.

"Rising star of the UK folk scene" Music republic magazine

Recently a transatlantic record deal has been struck between Saskia and The Susanne Marcus Collins Foundation Inc. (US), and they are now working together on "creating quality acoustic music mirroring the style and capturing the energy of the great legacy folk artists." See full article here.

Instead of touring America, Canada, Europe and the UK this year, 2020 will see Saskia releasing her new album 'Are You Listening' on July 31st, and she is heading to Abbey Road Studios for the third time to record. She will also be completing a series of 'safe summer' concerts in August, and plans to raise money for charity later in the year, building towards touring again in 2021.

It’s a busy night at Frankie’s Chippy, as always.  From lasses heading out on the town, to those just passing through and the regulars who have been coming here for years. But when reports start coming in of a little girl gone missing, the community must pull together to find her before it’s too late.

Will they see what was under their noses all along?

With two performers playing all the different characters who come through the doors, Haddock and Chips will be a whistle stop tour of Whitley Bay’s finest folk.  Funny and heart-warming, this is a timely play about community and how, in the hardest of times, we can find hope in humanity.

We have something a bit different for you this time. I saw this show at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2019 and was blown away with the inventiveness and energy of the performers.

6 Feet, 3 Shoes by Slanjayvah Danza, (a merging of the Gaelic word for welcome and the Spanish word for dance) is part of the Highlights Rural Touring Scheme and uses dance, storytelling and foot-stomping rhythms to tell a poignant tale about the ties that bind us.  Feisty, percussive flamenco, contemporary and Scottish Step dance, featuring exhilarating live guitar and fiddle, 6 Feet, 3 Shoes brings to life a story that resonates across generations and cultures.

6 Feet, 3 Shoes tells the story of the early day collaborations between Jenni from Scotland and dancers from Cordoba, celebrating the friendship between the trio, and of their cultures, with an uplifting blend of traditional and contemporary dance.

Polish your dancing shoes: you are invited, should you wish,  to join the short ceilidh that will follow the show.

The show has been updated for 2022 - we look forward to seeing you in Mickleton. £10 for adults, £5 for children.

Book tickets at Mickleton Village Hall - Highlights Rural Touring Scheme (highlightsnorth.co.uk). Alternatively, call 01833 640909 or email MickletonVH@gmail.com for tickets and further information

Brief synopsis: Kenneth Branaugh's Belfast is an autobiographical account from his childhood. It depicts a story about a young boy and his working class family experiencing the tumultuous late 1960s in the hometown of Belfast. I'm going to say it, I've never been taken away by Branaugh's direction in the past. He's a great actor and all, but when it comes to filmmaking, everything I've seen from him has either just been okay or disappointed. Maybe it's because he's never made something as personal as this. Though I don't think it's as wonderful as everyone makes it out to be, I did find myself enjoying Belfast. It manages to create a story centered around family and what it feels like to be a child growing up in a place that's dear to you. With the story being almost auto-biographical, you see the world as Branaugh did. It's a fun and lovely story, even if it touches on heavier subjects like loss and riots. I found the screenplay to be written well. Honestly, this movie could very well be considered a comedy. It's full of humor and light. Still, it can play out a bit melodramatic, especially the end. The ending for me was a little abrupt. I was told there was going to be a scene full of emotion to make everyone cry, but that moment passed and it was the end. I'm glad it ended on that note instead of Branaugh's original ending which had a documentary sort of thing going on and him returning to Belfast. Luckily we have editors to cut things out.

Katie Doherty formed the Navigators in 2018. Their power and dynamic is often described as much bigger than its component parts. Katie’s songs hang on the precipice of the current state of the world. There is enormous heart filled hope but there is much riding on where we go from here. The songs paint sweeping pictures and intricate portraits of NHS Workers, Musicians, Teachers, Artists, Protesters and Parents. They are rooted in a craggy North East landscape looking outwards across the sea, with a telescopic lens pointing firmly up, out and forward to the best future possible.
Listen for echos of Regina Spektor, Nancy Kerr, Guy Garvey and Anais Mitchell all of whose influence can be found within the sound of FLOW.
The music exudes heart, warmth and melody which leaves you feeling uplifted and welcomed.

A Way Home: The fight for a place to belong
A play by Christina Castling. A Carole Wears Production.

It’s 1951 and a third of County Durham’s villages have been classified as ‘D’. No longer deemed worthy of investment, they’re expected to die quietly. But they refuse to go without a fight.

A Way Home is a new play rooted in the stories and memories of the people who called those D villages home. A County-wide fight lasting over 25 years becomes a 12-month journey at Bet’s kitchen table as she and her family grapple with what identity, loss and belonging really look like.
